If you're wandering through the picturesque streets of Arashiyama, make sure to pause and indulge in the tranquil oasis that is Chasanraku Tea Stand. Nestled at 7 Sagatenryuji Tsukurimichicho, this charming tea stand offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in Japan's rich tea culture while enjoying delectably crafted matcha drinks and sweet treats.

As a cafe, Chasanraku specializes in the art of matcha, which is evident from the moment you step inside. The ambience is serene and inviting, with natural light filtering through traditional Japonese decor, creating a warm and calming environment. Whether you’re enjoying a refreshing matcha latte or savoring the delicious houjicha latte, you’ll appreciate the depth of flavor in every sip, as noted by satisfied customers like Dexter Thiam, who praised the "strong tea flavor and creamy taste."

Delight your palate with their matcha madeleine, a standout treat that consistently earns rave reviews: “The matcha madeleine was even better,” says one enthusiastic patron. And if you find yourself visiting during the summer months, don’t miss the kakigori, a beautifully crafted shave ice dessert that brings a perfect coolness to warm days—an experience that Anna Tredway describes as “wonderful,” emphasizing the aesthetic beauty alongside the tantalizing taste.

One of the most appealing aspects of Chasanraku is its commitment to a personalized experience. Visitor Ellice HN shared her delightful time at a traditional tea ceremony—an informative and detail-oriented event led by their friendly staff. “Most importantly, my parents enjoyed it so much,” she remarked—a testament to the cafe's welcoming atmosphere and cultural authenticity. Guests can take part in these ceremonies to deepen their appreciation of Japanese customs while enjoying exquisite teas.

Chasanraku is more than just a place to sip tea; it's a peaceful retreat from the bustling tourist paths of Arashiyama. As highlighted by customer Peggy Lee, “this place is a peaceful hideaway from the crowd.” Imagine succumbing to relaxation in this hidden gem after a day of sightseeing—sipping an indulgent matcha latte, made creamy with rich milk, as you bask in the beauty surrounding you. It’s a refreshingly flavorful experience that’s perfect for rejuvenation.

With each visit, the staff consistently impresses with their attentiveness and knowledge. Many reviewers, like Rosie, appreciate the allergen information provided upon request, showcasing the cafe’s dedication to customer care. Whether you're an avid matcha fan or new to the scene, Chasanraku Tea Stand welcomes you with open arms and a full menu of delightful options.

In sum, Chasanraku isn't merely a cafe—it's a delightful exploration of taste and tradition, situated amidst the iconic beauty of Kyoto. Higher end macha in a very beautiful environment~ The staff provided allergen information upon asking. Since it was not crowded, we could relax for a while, usually there is a time limit of 50min. Much recommended!

Matcha latter and houjicha latte both tasted very good, with strong tea flavor and a creamy taste. The matcha madeleine was even better. Very comfortable and clean environment to relax in the hot summer sun.

I love the tea ceremony experience, it was very detail and informative on the Japanese Tea and the etiquette. We had a great time and most importantly, my parents enjoyed it so much. Thank you to Atsuko-san for the arrangement. She was very helpful and friendly when she knew it was my parents first trip to Japan and we needed Chinese speaking ceremony. I hope to see you all again!

We booked a tea ceremony spontaneuously during sakura season and received a confirmation for the desired time promptly. The ceremony itself was calm and peaceful and well explained, so we could enjoy and also learn about the japanese culture. We felt very welcome and would highly recommend coming here.

This place is a peaceful hideaway from the crowd!! As the Arashiyama area is often packed with tourists who could sometimes be noisy, this quiet place seems like another world that provides a resting place after much sightseeing and walking around. The matcha latte was SO GOOD! The milk they use is so rich. The drink was refreshing and flavorful. (The shaved ice was normal, nothing surprisingly good but also a good dessert for the summer)
